1. Bring all of your research and development work into Microsoft Word (i.e. text, images, screenshots, scans of sketches etc.)
2. Organise the research into the seven sections that will be marked individually, with clearly labeled headings dividing the sections (i.e. Objectives, Brainstorming, Research, Information Architecture, Concept Development, Screenwork, Tutorials)
3. Go to File – Print and choose ‘PDF’ from the option in the bottom left of the pop up window. Choose ‘Save as PDF’

Please include your research and development PDF in your project folder when you submit it to the hand-in folder on Friday. Thank you.

CDMYr2 – Web Development – Email Form Exercise

This tutorial creates a form in a web page that collects email addresses and stores them in a database from which they can be retrieved and used in marketing campaigns.

Part I – Setting Up the Table in Your Database

Step 1. Log in to your 000webhost.com account here: http://members.000webhost.com

Step 2. Click on ‘Go to CPanel’

Step 3. Under ‘Software / Services’, click on ‘phpMyadmin’

Step 4. Click the ‘Enter phpMyAdmin’ link

Step 5. Under ‘Create New Table on Database’, create a table called ‘email’ and give it 3 fields

Step 6. Click ‘Go’

Step 7. In the first field, change the following settings and leave the rest as they are:

Field: email_id
Type: INT
Extra: auto_increment
Key: Primary

Step 8. In the second field, change the following settings and leave the rest as they are:

Field: email_address
Type: VARCHAR
Length/Values: 255
Null: Null

Step 9. In the third field, change the following settings and leave the rest as they are:

Field: email_date
Type: TIMESTAMP
Default: Current Timestamp (Check Box)

Step 10: Click ‘Save’. Your email table has now been created in your database.

Part II – Linking Dreamweaver to your Database

Step 1. Open Dreamweaver and connect to your 000webhost.com webspace

Step 1a. Go to ‘Manage Sites’ and click on the ‘Remote’ tab on the left. Select ‘PHP / MySQL’ and ‘FTP’ from the dropdown menus. Make sure that the http address under the ‘remote’ and ‘local’ tabs are identical and set to your root domain, e.g. http://lucidmag.freeiz.com/

Step 2. Create a new PHP file called ‘email.php’ and save it in your root folder

Step 3. Under the ‘Applications’ panel, in the ‘Databases’ tab, click the ‘+’ icon and select ‘MySQL Connection’

Step 4. In the pop-up window, fill in the following settings:

Connection Name: conn_mysite
MySQL Server: mysql15.000webhost.com
Username: [your database username] (e.g. a3040174_og)
Password: [your database password]

Step 5. Click ‘Select’ and choose the database name that appears (e.g. a3040174_lyitog). Click OK. You should see a small yellow icon in the ‘Databases’ tab with the name of your database beside it, conn_mysite

Step 6. Click anywhere in your PHP document and type ‘Please enter your email address below:’

Step 7. Press enter to get onto the next line.

Step 8. Choose ‘Data’ from the tabs menus and select ‘Record Insertion Form Wizard’ from the dropdown menu below the icon called ‘Insert Record’ (or choose ‘Insert’ from the dropdown menus at the top of the screen, then ‘Data Objects’, followed by ‘Insert Record’ and ‘Record Insertion Form Wizard.’)

Step 9. Select the following settings in the pop-up window that appears:

Connection: conn_mysite
Table: email
After Inserting Go To: email.php

Step 10. Use the ‘-’ (minus) icon to remove the ‘email_id’ and ‘email_date’ fields, leaving only the ‘email_address’ field.

Step 11. Change the ‘Label’ to read ‘Email Address:’ and click ‘OK’.

Step 12. You should see a blue form in your page surrounded by a dotted red line with a text field and a button.

Step 13. Under the ‘Application’ panel, select the ‘Bindings’ tab.

Step 14. Click the ‘+’ icon and select ‘Recordset (Query)’

Step 15. In the pop-up window, change the following settings and leave the rest the same:

Name: rs_email
Connection: conn_lyit
Table: email
Sort: email_id, descending

Step 16: Click OK and you should see an icon representing your recordset in the ‘Bindings’ tab

Step 17. Click below the red outline and press enter to go to the next line.

Step 18. Under the ‘Data’ tab, select ‘Dynamic Table’ from the dropdown menu under the ‘Dynamic Data’ icon. (or select the ‘Insert’ menu at the top of the screen, then ‘Data Objects’, followed by ‘Dynamic Data’ and finally ‘Dynamic Table’)

Step 19. In the pop-up window, change ‘show’ to ‘All Records’ and click ‘OK’

Step 20. Save your file and upload it to your webspace, along with the ‘Connections’ folder. Navigate to the URL for this page, e.g. http://lyitog.vacau.com/email.php

When you insert an email address into the form, it is sent to the database and stored, then retrieved from the database and displayed in the page below the form instantly.

Embed Flash in WordPress Page

To embed Flash content in your WordPress page, you can install the Kimili Flash Embed plugin, which can be downloaded here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/kimili-flash-embed/

Once you have it installed, you will see a ‘Kimili Flash Embed’ button or small Flash icon whenever you go to add a page or new post. Click this and put in the URL where you have the swf file uploaded to (e.g. http://lucid.freeiz.com/wordpress/myflashbanner.swf) and click ‘Generate’ and Kimili will automatically put the tag into your post for you. Click Publish or Update and the Flash content should show up on your page.
